MARPE treatment works by gently moving the two halves of the upper jaw apart. You can think of it like cutting a cake into two equal pieces. When the cake is split, a little space naturally appears between the two halves.
Dental Bonding
For those seeking a quick aesthetic solution, dental bonding is an excellent option. This procedure involves applying a tooth-colored resin to the teeth, which is then shaped and polished to match the surrounding teeth. Advantages of dental bonding include:
- Quick Results: The procedure can often be completed in a single visit.
- Minimally Invasive: No tooth enamel is removed during the process.
Dental bonding is ideal for small gaps and offers immediate improvement in the appearance of your teeth.
Do I Need Veneers after MARPE treatment?
For a more long-lasting and good-looking solution, many people choose veneers. Veneers are very thin shells made of porcelain or composite material that are custom-made to cover the front of your teeth.
Benefits of veneers include:
- Natural look: They reflect light like real teeth.
- Strong and durable: With good care, they can last for many years.
- Stain-resistant: Porcelain veneers don’t stain as easily as natural teeth.
Getting veneers does mean removing a small layer of enamel, and they can be expensive, but they can make a big difference for people who want a perfect smile. Veneers and further implant and crown placement is not included in MARPE treatement and is discussed and coordinated with the General Dentist or your treating provider.
While Dr. Koval’s MARPEFACE protocol usually closes the spaces created after MARPE expansion, sometimes it’s necessary to re-open a space for a tooth that was previously removed. If that’s the case, this part of the plan is discussed before the MARPE expansion, and later tooth movements with aligners are carefully planned around it.
Another reason veneers may be used after MARPE treatment is when a patient’s teeth were already different in size or shape before treatment. For example, some people have peg-shaped lateral incisors (small, underdeveloped side teeth). In this situation, space is left on purpose during treatment so veneers can later be added to create nicely shaped teeth.
