Meet Dr. Svitlana Koval, a leading figure in the field of airway orthodontics with over 15 years of hands-on experience treating both children and adults. Hailing from Odesa, Ukraine, her journey began with a bronze medal at the International Biology Olympiad - an early testament to her academic prowess.
Her thirst for knowledge took her across continents to Boston University's Goldman School of Dental Medicine where she graduated with a High Honors DMD degree and became a member of the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society, Lambda Mu Chapter.
Returning to Odessa State Medical University in Ukraine, Dr. Koval further honed her skills by earning an Orthodontic Specialty degree in 2010 followed by a Master’s Degree in 2009. Today, she stands as an internationally recognized expert and opinion leader for T-scan digital occlusal analysis applications in Orthodontics and treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing in children and adults worldwide. Dr.Koval is an inventor of the 3D guided midpalatal piezocorticotomy which is a ground-breaking innovation significantly reducing the incidence of asymmetric expansion, traction of the nasla septum while expanding and others. Dr.Koval`s approach to MARPE treatment is unique in its phylosophy of addressing upper airway deficit and rooting consequent orthodontic treatment to further enhance the results of 3D guided midpalatal piezoocrtictoomy assisted MARPE expansion. Dr.Koval has published several studies that show the efficacy of the combined 3D guided midpalatal piezocorticotomy MARPE treatemnt approach and the longevity of its outcomes.
Dr. Koval's dedication extends beyond practice into research and education; she is not only an author of multiple orthodontic articles but also contributed to the Third Edition of the Handbook of Research on Computerized Occlusal Analysis – cementing her place as a thought leader in this field and to an Elsevier Book Chapter on Non-surgical Maxillary Skeletal Expansion.
